ExClean

2008-05-03

ExClean is a ‘skin’ for David Ekholm’s JAlbum photo gallery generator. The goal is to have a clear, simple, and friendly appearance based on valid and modern structural markup. ExClean generates valid XHTML and CSS and adds support for navigation with the LINK element. If you like simple skins that don’t clutter the screen with lots of stuff around the pictures themselves, you might like this one.

Here’s a demonstration gallery.

Download

Release 0.4.5 (03 May 2008)

To install, just unzip the file in your JAlbum installation’s skins folder.

Compatibility

Although this skin should be usable with any browser, best results are achieved with modern, standards-compliant browsers such as recent versions of Mozilla Firefox and Opera. MS Internet Explorer 6 does not support all visual effects and LINK navigation, but works acceptably. I will not add workarounds for outdated and broken browsers, such as MSIE ≤ 5 or Netscape 4.x.

ExClean 0.4.5 has been tested with JAlbum 7.3. It is expected to work with all versions from 6 up.

Acknowledgements

ExClean was originally based on the ‘Exhibit’ and ‘Standard’ skins as included with JAlbum; not much of that code is left, though. Most of the non-trivial CSS is based on snippets by Eric Meyer, Jeffrey Zeldman, and various other people.

Feel free to use the code as you wish.

Plans / Known Problems

The index/thumbnail pages need some work: support for subfolders and movies is still rudimentary. Supporting voice annotations would be nice.
